Compensation: $20 Hourly + chance for overtime
Housing: None Available, Preference Given To Island Residents or Current Island Employees looking for a second job. Ferry Pass provided for those commuting to the island.
Job Overview
Spend your summer living and working on Michigan’s most iconic island! We’re looking for outgoing, reliable gardeners to join the seasonal team at Mackinac Landscape and Garden. If you love meeting new people, working with beautiful flowers, being outdoors, and working with views of Lake Huron, this is the job for you! This job does provide on island housing for females. Male candidates must already either have housing or be willing to commute to the island via ferry (ferry pass provided by employer).
Responsibilities
Garden Maintenance
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Performing a variety of tasks and assigned work duties involving strenuous manual labor in outdoor projects and worksites
Care for potted plants, perennial & annual gardens: preparing soil, planting, weeding, pruning, and watering
Hedge trimming, pruning bushes, raking, mulching, and other miscellaneous grounds maintenance, using small power and hand tools
Maintaining a clean job site; picking up all tools and equipment and securing job site each day to eliminate potential hazards
Raking and blowing leaves
Complying with safety regulations and maintaining a clean and orderly facility
Performing other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must be 18 years or older
Ability to lift 50 pounds, unassisted
Bend, twist, and kneel with ease
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Able to ride a bike up to 10 miles per day towing cart full of tools or lawn mower
High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
Good stamina and physical health
Knowledge of landscape tools and equipment and ability to use them safely and properly
Dependable and able to follow instructions while working efficiently
Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
Demonstrate artistic attention to detail in all planting phases
Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
Ability to communicate orally
Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
Additional Notes
Housing is available for female candidates.
Male candidates must already have on-island housing or be willing to commute to the island.
This job would be perfect for someone looking to pick up more hours as theirs start to decrease into the fall!
Commuter ferry pass provided if you will be living off island and commuting to work.
